Navy to conduct bomb exercise outside Alaska Capitol

The U.S. Navy will conduct an explosives training exercise outside the Alaska Capitol on Thursday, March 10, from 1-4 p.m.

Juneau Police Department will have community service officers in the area to help with traffic control as JPD, Alaska State Capitol Security, and Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians hold a drill involving a mock improvised explosive device in vehicle.

The Capitol’s daily business activities will not be impacted, the Navy said, but the drill will require traffic limits on 4th St. between Main St. and Seward St.

Navy ordnance disposal personnel are in Juneau participating in Exercise Arctic Edge 2022. Their team is conducting Expeditionary Mine Countermeasures operations in the Gastineau Channel.

AE22 is a U.S. Northern Command exercise that takes place every two years, providing training for participants in locations across Alaska.

    Alaska politics in the 21st century. Then, move the Capitol.

  2. Please, conduct bomb test IN capitol. Then we can relocate capitol to where it should be: in the middle of Alaska’s population, not a remote extremity of the state where people can’t witness their legislators doing almost nothing, or screwing them over.

        How about a location within the Mat-Su, such as Wasilla, or even Big Lake?

        Though mine own personal choice would be Palmer, but any location upon the road system, where the rest of us would have access unto would suffice, would it not?

        • Randy Lee Harkins, I disagree with your premise. Firstly, I moved to the outskirts of Palmer from Juneau to ESCAPE the disease of Government.
          I am too old to move again, so no ,not Palmer.
          Secondly, it is my opinion that the seat of Government should be in a place that is equally uncomfortable to reach and live in. I think Tok or Gulkana fits the bill. Interestingly the later was Robert Atwood’s ( big Capital mover, owner of Anchorage Times) choice.
          In closing, tell me why is Government corrupt? It isn’t a for want of access by the people. Look at Anchorage and it’s local politicos. I believe Sir that Government is corrupt because of the people you elect are corrupted. Change that and it doesn’t matter where the Legislator meets with his fellow Representatives.

  4. I certainly didn’t say this, or even think it, but any number of people have speculated on a Joe Biden type of screw-up with this exercise and blowing up the Capitol. Maybe the replacement people would be prone to common sense and thrift, the new Capitol Building could be built on the road system, and yes, the new building could be dedicated to those fine Alaskans to whom we had said good-bye. Biden has already had a lot of screw-ups this week but as this exercise is scheduled for next week there is still time for government to act.
