Murkowski, Collins, Romney won’t sign condemnation of secret impeachment sessions

Just three Republican senators balked at signing as cosponsors to a GOP Senate resolution condemning secret impeachment proceedings taking place in three House committees.

Those three are Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, and Mitt Romney of Utah. Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska did sign on as a cosponsor of the Sense of the Senate.

No Democrats in the Senate signed it but the rest of the Republicans did. The resolution was introduced by South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Murkowski told reporters, “You don’t hold up foreign aid that we had previously appropriated for a political initiative. Period.”

But that’s not the way it works in the Executive Branch.

“We do that all the time with foreign policy,” Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told ABC News reporter Jon Karl. “Get over it…Elections have consequences.”

Sen. Graham told Fox News’s Sean Hannity that the resolution “puts the Senate on record condemning the House.”

The resolution calls for an open inquiry that allows President Trump his due process protections. To date, the committees have been meeting in secret to determine if Trump withheld aid Ukraine government while demanding the country investigate interference in the 2016 election, which would involve Joe Biden in his role as Vice President.

The cosponsors of the resolution are:

  • Graham
  • McConnell
  • Grassley
  • Thune
  • Blunt
  • Shelby
  • Inhofe
  • Roberts
  • Crapo

Republican National Committee’s Executive Committee unanimously passed a resolution in support of President Trump and the Graham-McConnell resolution:

“Today, members of the RNC Executive Committee unanimously passed a resolution of support for our president and the Graham-McConnell resolution condemning the unprecedented actions of House Democrats,” said Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. “However baseless this inquiry may be, if House Democrats are intent on pursuing their political vendetta against President Trump, he should at least be afforded the same due process as every other American. Their unwillingness to do that is further evidence that this partisan sham is nothing more than a desperate attempt to take down a president they know they can’t beat at the ballot box.”

  1. Those three voted with their party affiliation…. why would this vote have been any different?

  2. I have no idea how this works, but can Murkowski be impeached or recalled? I’m ashamed to say I voted for her, and in my opinion, she is no longer working for Alaska and hasn’t been for some time.

    • I say Alaskans call to impeach her.. Lisa Murkowski.. She no longer has Alaskans best interests in mind. She is all about herself. Time to go

      • She’s all about the Native vote, which she must appease. That’s who won her after she broke her promise to support the Republican winner of the primary in…2010? When Joe Miller won the primary. She reneged, completely. And then the nonsense over spelling…

  3. What’s Murkowski’s excuse? Collins and Romney are intelligent and have a vested interest in defeating Trump. But Lisa is dumber than cannon fodder, just like her dad Frank. (maybe Frank appointed her so he wouldn’t forever be known as the dumb Murkowski).

    • Paul, you are correct. Daddy Frank Murkowski (US Senator at the time) actually voted to convict Prez Bill Clinton after he was impeached by the House in 1998. This fact alone makes Frank slightly smarter than his daughter Lisa. But not by much. The name Murkowski is the laughing stock of Alaskans.

    • Nothing to misunderstand. As Paul so poignantly stated above, Lisa Murkowski is as dumb as they come. That’s the answer, and all you need to know.

  4. Who will step up and run against this Senator that will not stand for truth and supports the lies against our President?

  5. Lisa Murkowski does not represent the conservative Alaskan’s that elected her, she is on her own quest with the liberal members of the Senate. She could care less about voting in the direction of the people that elected her, instead she is a wildcard and has not fear that we will hold her accountable – it is my hope that she is elected out and replaced with a real republican and not a “fake”. Like the note i sent her today, just put a “D” by your name instead of an “R”. Fact is, she could care less.

    • I don’t understand why anyone is surprised at this. She pulled the same kind of thing, far more often than not, before you reelected her in 2016. Ya’ll do know the definition of insanity, yes?

  6. Lisa Murkowski plays every person and vote in this state. She is corrupt, with the illegal acquisitions of real estate property that the FBI found during the investigation of the legislature persons that are now in prison. She votes for Planned parenthood, they donate, and she is a Catholic with all the commitments in marriage, children and family, and she tries to hide it from the public. She and Tuckerman Babcock were fined for Fraud, lying and falsification of major issues of the results of the election with Joe Miller. Tuckerman Babcock was relieved of his role as chairman of the Republican Party for Alaska. She was so scared of Joe Miller that she ran to the ignorant natives to help her get elected to the Senate, and of course, they are a dumb group when it comes to elections. She goes up north to the natives every now and then to make them feel comfortable with her. She plays everyone. Her stint up North with the EPA Administrator was a farce. She promised them good water and sewage treatment monies for all villages. The reality is that the villages and small natives towns have been getting $200K per village, every year, in grant money for the last 40 years. That was never mentioned, so there is no new money, just ignorant native villages and groups that have used the money in the wrong way. So, these are examples of her playing into the shady area of life and lying as she goes. When she needs help with malicious endeavors she goes to the “discontents” of the Republican Party and the Democrats she has played with for the last 40 years when “Big Dad” Frank Murkowski showed her how to screw the Republican party in Alaska. So what is new? Its time to put money out there to get rid of her and the time is coming or to get a recall going on the failure to stay the course with her oath to the Republican Party. Dumb Governor Parnell just had to sign her in as the winner!! against Miller. That Gov. was dumb, dumb, dumb. Look what we have now!!! and since then.

    • Wow, where to start? With your declaration that Native Alaskans are ignorant and dumb voters? Or with your assumption that Senator Murkowski took an oath to the Republican Party?

Putting party over principal is dangerous tribalism and will lead to no good.

    • Frank Murkowski was going to appoint John Binkley to his seat in the US Senate, but Lisa begged her dad to appoint her. Dumb and dumber! Does the Murkowski family have any brains at all? She is embarrassing the entire state of Alaska.

  7. Read the Constitution, folks. Isn’t that what we conservatives are supposed to be known for?

I’m not trying to defend the dems in the House, but we do need to look at this through the lens of the Constitution. Let me explain:

Article 1 says practically nothing about how impeachments are to be carried out. In the absence of details, the House and Senate get to make their own rules on the specific process. Right now the House is trying to collect evidence. The trial, should it happen, will be in the Senate. Even in a normal criminal trial (which we need to remember that this is not – it is an impeachment), the accused doesn’t defend themselves while the detectives are collecting evidence. They defend themselves in court. That will be in the Senate. And from the sounds of it, the President will have plenty of chances there to defend himself.

    • Actually, to change rules needs a vote of the whole House, which the Democrats have not done or passed yet. During the impeachment process of Clinton, the then-Speaker of the House allowed Clinton’s personal lawyers access to all the procedures, which the Democrats are not even allowing fellow Congressional colleagues access to all the procedures.

    • Sole power of impeachment is assigned to the House and requires a majority vote. Has not happened. Panels are questioning witnesses in secret. Has never happened before.
These proceedings are improper. There is no requirement to cooperate.
Perhaps you should change your name.

    Dear Senator Lisa Murkowski,

We have noticed that you are doing a great job! Stay honest.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A judge on Friday ordered the Justice Department to give the House secret grand jury testimony from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, handing a victory to Democrats who want it for the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, curruption persists at all levels of government.
    Have a great day!
    Private Agent 007

  9. Isn’t the House’s role like a Grand Jury and the Senate is the trial? Aren’t bribery and treason the two original reasons for being impeached? I’m confused as to why this is an issue – the President gets his day in court with the senate. Where is the news story about the TRILLION dollar deficit that was revealed today?

  10. What do Romney, Collins, and Murkowski not understand? They have fought this president umpteen times, but time and again he has proven to get it done right for the American people and the United States of America. We stand for the Constitution.

  11. Well, let’s hold on to a bit of hope: Although she may not want to co-sponsor the resolution, she can still vote for it when it is taken up by the Senate.

  12. At long last, Trump is getting a dose of his own medicine – always attack, never back down. Karma, baby!

Impeachment is long overdue, entirely justified, and so satisfying.

  13. I am sorry that Susan Collins finds herself in the company of Mitt and Lisa on this issue. Susan made an intelligent choice just a year ago during the Kavanaugh decision. Mitt is a bit twisted while Lisa is, well, just being Lisa. Who is surprised by her?

  14. Lisa, who ended up voting against Kavanaugh’s nomination because women, is now on record supporting a Star Chamber, Soviet-style process – secret testimony, well-crafted leaks that only support one side of the process, inability to confront or cross examine witnesses. Congratulations on your continued support for the Rule of Law (/sarc).

I predicted months ago that she will a vote to convict and remove Trump should this get that far. And when she does that, it will seal this as her last term in the Senate.

Sooner or later Lisa’s Orange Man Bad worldview is going to hurt Alaska. If she can’t keep it under control, perhaps she should resign for the Greater Good. Cheers –

    • Hoo Boy Agimarc, there you go making predictions without evidence. Not smart IMO, but go ahead.
Don Trump used to be able to control the message by having his buddies collect the stories against him and bury them. In case you haven’t noticed, that process is no longer working.
Here’s my prediction, by the way, that Murkowski will vote based on the evidence presented should there be an Impeachment. In other words, her vote will be based on this evidence which is pretty close to Rule of Law IMO.

  15. When Lisa Murkowski is up for reelection, Republicans need to bite the bullet and vote Democrat to vote her out. There is no other way to remove her from office.

    • I would never vote Democrat to vote her out of office. I believe she will either not run, or if she runs, she will lose to another Republican. Alaskan conservatives are sick and tired of Lisa Murkowski.

  16. Every time I notice that Lisa Murkowski is playing the Democrat I have to throw up. It’s time the Republican party stops supporting her and votes “no confidence” in Lisa Murkowski.
    .

  17. The real test will come when Trump is impeached by the House and then is tried in the Senate. It will take two thirds of the Senate to convict Trump. My guess is that Murkowski will not vote to convict. If she does it will forever seal her fate and make her unelectable in Alaska. There is little chance Trump will be convicted by two thirds vote in any event. Romney will Vote to convict. Collins will go along with what Murkowski does. Trump will emerge bruised but with much sympathy from the voters. But only so long as the economy remains strong. If the economic bubble bursts he will be fired out of office like a “ human cannonball”.

  18. There was never any doubt in my mind that she would not support Kavanagh and none she will vote to impeach. As with most on the Left, there is a double standard. Republicans have to perfect, or she has a problems. Democrats get a pass. This was 100% Frank’s fault. The Murkowskis are bad people for Alaska yet they have had their name on a US Senate seat for 63% of the time Alaska has had a US Senate seat. Enough!

  19. Lisa Murkowski I am so tired of you working against the people. You are disgrace to conservatives. I don’t know what Feinstein has on you but that photo shows it all.

  20. 2022 is coming Senator Murkowski.

But, the question is, will a conservative rise up to run against her. And if/when she does lose in the primary, will she run to the same groups (Dems, Liberals, Planned Parenthood, minority groups) to support another write-in campaign. “I’ll support the process and the primary vote” (as long as I win the primary vote).

  21. Request to the three Senators:
I would like to respectfully request that you read the article in today’s Wall Street Journal entitled, “This Impeachment Subverts the Constitution”. The outcome of this effort by the Democrats affects not only the current President but those who follow. It is not good for our country and should be stopped irrespective of one’s views of President Trump.

  22. I am looking forward to election time. Maybe a worthy Republican will step up so we can give Lisa a much needed rest. I don’t think she’s thinking clearly.

    • Has anyone heard when Murky will have a local Town Hall meeting, oop’s I forgot that is not until 2022. I guess the remainder of the time We Alaskans can only speculate about why our U.S. Senator attacks the Best U.S. president Alaska has ever had, period.

  23. The wrong Senator is up for re-election next year and Alaska may well be on the way to losing both it Senators in the next three years….I think now only the President can save those seats….Dan has been on the right team most of the time but he has not been a strong Senator and Lisa has remained a lady filled with hate and connected to the Washington elite…..she left Alaska some time ago..!! Romona was right ‘never trust Lisa’

    • I disagree about Senator Dan not being a strong Senator. For a freshman, I believe he has done great work for Alaska.

  24. Settled then. Trump and the Clinton’s are impeached. Let’s move on and find something better – what we have now is NOT the answer.

  25. Two WOMEN and one guy has more balls than all the rest. Amazing that three out of how many thuglicans will be the only ones on the right side of history. Pelosi is playing completely by the rules (unless one lives in the Fox parallel universe) as we see by one after another judge slamming the trumpanzee’s onslaught. Even the last originalist, Thomas, will be there. He is trapped, should any of these silly suits make it that far. The constitution is pretty clear about all this, just ask Bill Clinton. As far as the wet dreams here about Lisa needing to be replaced, unfortunately for you all, there are too many indee’s (like me) that will vote for her. Delicious, I must say!

    • All this was best described by the legal saying: “When the facts are with you pound the facts. When the facts are against you pound the table.”
Lindsey Graham is just pounding the table here IMO and it may succeed in delaying the inevitable.

    • That hasn’t been proven and you know it. It’s what you want to believe.
Trouble is we still have due process in this country. A case for withholding funds until corruption was investigated can be asserted.
Don’t play fast and loose with the due process protection every American is entitled to. Maybe one day they will come in handy to you.

  26. As long as Murkowski keeps bringing the flow of “free stuff” to you know who, she will continue to be re-elected in one of our country’s most welfare-dependent states.

  27. Our democratic senator from Alaska @lisamurkowski has been resentful and blocking our great President at every turn. What a disappointment she has been. She disgusts me.

  28. I can almost guarantee that Lisa Murkowski will not run for re-election when her term is up. She knows darn well that her time as an Alaskan Senator is done and therefore she doesn’t care how she votes as long as she can stay “in the middle” to ensure that people on either side of the political aisle see her as neutral. By doing this she thinks that she will come across as a neutral party and that it will give her more options for a career outside of politics. She is a hypocrite to her faith, her political party and the people who voted for her.

  29. Pelosi will now hold a vote on 10/31 to make the impeachment process open to the public, and afford rights to the minority party. Even Pelosi recognized the current process was a ridiculous sham. Is she smarter than Lisa? Does dislike Trump less than Lisa? What is the excuse for our Republican(!) senator to have not recognized how unfair and irregular the current process had been?

    • The minority is getting ‘limited rights’, certainly not the same rights accorded the D’s during the Clinton impeachment. And, to keep Adam Schiff as the lead Chairman is ridiculous, given his lies, leaks and star chamber witness hearings.

  30. Impeachment is controlled by the House. They act like the grand jury and hear evidence, after which they vote for or against impeachment. Their deliberations can be secret. There are both Republicans and Democrats on the committees considering impeachment, but the whole house makes the final vote.
If the House votes for impeachment, the Senate is where the trial takes place. This is where evidence and witnesses are heard and where cross examination can take place. The trial is public. Two thirds of the Senate must vote to convict in order to remove the miscreant from office. It’s really pretty straight forward.
Now, everyone take a deep breath and save your rancor for another time.

  31. Murkowski name is crap in Alaska. Full of lies, breaches, and traitorous actions. This family has had their teeth in Alaska politics since 1980……that’s 40 years folks. Alaskans don’t celebrate royalty Get these basta*rds out of office for good before they ruin our great state.

  32. It sounds like Murkowski doesn’t want to get stuck on the ‘wrong’ side so she won’t commit to either side. I have seen plenty of evidence that I trust which shows that President Trump did NOTHING wrong and that this impeachment is a total sham and waste of taxpayer money. Liberals are still mad that Hillary didn’t win and this is the only way to get back at Republicans and their voters. It’s time for the House to get back to work and actually do what they were hired to do!
