Bill Falsey, municipal manager for Anchorage, has declared he will run for Anchorage mayor. The position comes open next April 6, and formal filing is in January.
Falsey has worked in city government for five years, joining the staff of Mayor Ethan Berkowitz in 2015 as an attorney.
He played a pivotal role in facilitating the sale of Municipal Light & Power to Chugach Electric and has been a central figure in advising and leading during the 2018 earthquake recovery, the 2019 wildfires, and the 2020 pandemic.
A graduate of Dimond High School in Anchorage, he has a B.S. degree from Stanford University and law degree from Yale University. He clerked for the Alaska Supreme Court and has been in private practice as a lawyer.

Also announced to be running for mayor are former Assemblyman Bill Evans, Eric Croft, Assemblyman Forrest Dunbar, and possibly Assemblyman Chris Constant.
Filing for office opens at the City Clerk’s office on Jan. 15, 2021, and closes Jan. 29, 2021.

When I read he worked for Berky and studied law at Stanford and Yale…no way. Too many of these types around and they do nothing for the people. Grad school at an Ivy League university makes him the self perceived elite and he will not listen to the people. I don’t live in Anchorage but their policies tend to have a trickle down effect on the rest of the state.

I assume that he will resign as Municipal Manager the moment he registers with APOC. If he doesn’t it will be an ethical violation, I am fairly sure.

Try again. The law says employees must step down from a Municipal job when elected – not when they announce their candidacy.

Not that many people know Falsey, but they will. An Anchorage kid who graduated at the top of his class. Followed by Stanford. Then law school at Yale. Turned down offers to go to New York and get rich. A public servant who gets things done without seeking attention. If you have not had any personal experience with Falsey, don’t make assumptions until have more information. It’s called being open minded, which is why we choose to live here.
All that, Susan, and he wants to be mayor of Anchorage? Why would he pick a dead-end job like this? He must be another delusional case with an ambitious agenda to come home and get even with some enemies in the private sector who are doing better than he. He even looks like an educated dweeb. Certainly not very manly, or Alaskan.

In times like these, in this climate, politicians are guilty by association. If in fact he is a fair haired boy, then he made a poor decision on who to hang out with.
With respect, current events suggest the last thing productive Anchorage residents need is yet another whiz-kid lawyer, a Berkowitz appointee whose only accomplishments to date seem to achieving hatchet man status for Ethan Berkowitz, helping wreck Anchorage’s economy, helping transition Anchorage into a post-Constitutional society, and trying (unsuccessfully) to seize a homeowner’s private property to benefit of a nonprofit trails club.

Prefer a mayor who was last in his class, a scrapper -not- born with a silver spoon, a populist, realist leader forged by life experience, not Ivy League status,

…whose purpose in life is -not- care and feeding of government, -not- wrecking peoples lives and livelihoods based on deliberately manufactured panic,

whose private-sector business experience gives him a clue as to how this monstrous government down can be cut down to manageable size,

…who promises out loud, in public that his first actions in office will be proposals to roll back property taxes, eliminate every tax imposed during the Berkowitz-Falsey administration, veto whatever intrusions the Assembly plans for therapist-client relationships, veto plans to buy bum housing with federal China flu money,

propose payments in lieu of taxes for all non-profit owned properties in Anchorage,

and last, but by no means least, proposing at each Assembly meeting until it passes, an ordinance to eliminate Anchorage’s easily corruptible mail-in vote scheme and restore traditional polling-place balloting.

Now that’s open minded and why we live here, yes?
Several observations, not all of them negative. First, Municipal Manager Falsey was impressive during the response to the earthquake. He generally presents much better than his current boss. He does appear to have a good command of the facts. Second, It might be better for us all if many were to stop soiling themselves when it is heard that someone went to Yale or Harvard. Lots of very defective people have attended those institutions. The Clintons come to mind. (And for those on the Left- Justice Kavanaugh is a Yale law school grad – what can that mean?!). Third, education and achievements are good to know, but what may be more relevant are the policies and goals the candidate has for the community. Falsey may be bright and effective, but if he wants to continue to turn Anchortown into North San Francisco or Havana, I will not support him.
Whoopee! Look at the choices so far! Voters please pay attention and get out and vote. I’m going to the polling place and putting my ballot in the ballot box if I have to crawl there. No mail-in ballot for me! Regardless of the outcome, I will have voted and have the only reasonable belief possible my vote will be counted! Please vote and do not allow this overwhelmingly apparent corruption to continue.
For the Municipal elections, I guess the City Hall or closest “drop box” will have to suffice.
Anchorage’s easily corruptible mail-in vote scam makes “voter choice” meaningless, doesn’t it?

I just wanted to point out that while everyone is decrying Falsey’s credentials they are failing to acknowledge that Falsey’s previous job (before Municipal Attorney) was Partner at Sedor, Wendlandt, Evans & Filippi, LLC.
And since Bill Evans is the darling of Mustreadalaska fans then surely that makes him okay right? Because why would Bill Evans ever hire someone unless he or she was a top notch attorney?
