”He who occupies the high ground… will fight to advantage.” —Sun Tzu
For over a half century the proponents of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and its intellectual precursors have fought from high ground, not from a moral position, but a tactical and strategic one secured by Marxist indoctrination that has pervaded nearly every corner of society.
The deliberate and methodical campaign has successfully muted public criticism, although privately most Americans felt that there is something terribly wrong with a philosophy that prioritizes appearance over ability. DEI’s commanding role in all branches of the military has resulted in no tangible benefits but a myriad of failures—falling morale and standards, recruitment shortfalls, plummeting public confidence in the military, poor leadership, and with the exception of the Marine Corps, the inability to fulfill basic mission requirements at an acceptable level.
The armed forces have not experienced a graphic, seminal event that aroused extensive public sentiment and exposed the deterioration of all branches of the military. Even the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle, which defied nearly every axiom of military doctrine, resulted with every responsible general’s career intact, and the disaster was soon lost in the mainstream media news cycle.
The few who understood the ramifications of DEI observed, “The emperor has no clothes,” were muted and repudiated as racists to be bombarded by relentless personal attacks or suffocated by outright censorship.
But within an instant in front of a worldwide live audience, the attempted assassination of President Trump laid bare the outright incompetence of the U.S. Secret Service, a once elite organization led by an unqualified director who has made DEI the Secret Service’s cornerstone.
Napoleon understood the importance of personal security and the need for elite cadres to protect him and intimidate potential adversaries and assassins. The Imperial Guard, known for loyalty and extreme competence, stood at least 6 inches taller than the average height of the times and wore prominent bearskin hats to appear even taller.
The Swiss Guards, who have served the Pope since arriving at the Vatican in 1506, have a long tradition of bravery and personal sacrifice. From the Sack of Rome in 1527 when 3/4 of the guard died defending Pope Clement VII, to standing firm against Nazi forces in World War II, to thwarting the assassination attempt of Pope John Paul II in 1981, and to this day the standards of guard remain impeccable.
The Secret Service under the leadership of Kimberly Cheatle, a political appointee with inadequate leadership experience, has made DEI a top priority within the organization. It is reported that there is turmoil within the ranks of the agency and concerns relating to its operational capabilities.
The once vaunted standards of the elite Secret Service are now an apparition, as candidates are selected by quotas defined by group identity. The results of this foray into the realm of selection processes meant to bolster self esteem resulted in disaster. Rather than staff the agency with hardened professionals, who display the physical attributes necessary to protect the president in a crisis and possess the experience to prevent the assassination in the first place, the Secret Service relies on those less qualified to serve.
The assassin was not the savvy professional whose mission was to assassinate Charles de Gaulle in Forsyth’s book, Day of the Jackal, but a rank amateur who was able to avoid the inept USSS and secure the high ground that offered a close-range, direct shot at the president.
Any competent rifleman with an adequate weapon could have succeeded, yet Director Cheatle, oblivious to the inadequacies of the organization she controls, praised the USSS’s performance. She states the “buck stops” with her but refuses to resign, secure in the fact that as a DEI appointee she is granted great latitude with regard to performance.
Once again, no one in the upper echelons of leadership is held accountable for massive failures. President Trump owes his life to a random head movement at precisely the right instant. Whether it was luck or divine intervention, he survived in spite of the Secret Service. The members of the Secret Service who were hired by DEI criteria did not pull the trigger of the assassin’s AR-15, but their lack of judgment, training, professionalism, and timing makes them culpable.
The Battle of Gettysburg demonstrated the military imperative to control the high ground, and this lesson applies to ideological battles that will be won by those who command the moral advantage and maintain their constitutional right to free speech to convey this message. The horrific assassination attempt meant to deprive millions of Americans the choice of their preferred presidential candidate serves as an opportunity to breach the defenses of DEI and end its pernicious assault on America’s institutions.
Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address honors sacrifice in defense of liberty and the principle that all men are created equal. These cherished rights have been defended on the battlefield against tyranny since the republic’s inception. What a tragedy to spill so much blood, only to succumb to DEI and other Marxist ploys that insidiously suck the life from society.
Scott Sturman, MD, a former Air Force helicopter pilot, is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy Class of 1972, where he majored in aeronautical engineering. This article was originally published by RealClearDefense and made available via RealClearWire.
In this day and age there are so many whack jobs running around out there you don’t have to orchestrate an assasination for it to occur. You merely have to slack off and allow it to happen. While evryone is investigating what happened last week, it would also be interesting to know the specifics of Mr. Trumps other appearances, and activities and the details of those security operations. Just sayin.
Wow. Black letter misogyny right here on the front page of MRAK. Then again, I guess it’s no more surprising than the “MASS DEPORTATION NOW!” signs recently seen at the RNC. What is a bit surprising, however, is that the Editor would sellout her own gender for sake of the Conservative cause by publishing such an article. It’s reminiscent of Nikki Haley’s recent debasement at the feet of Donald J. Trump. I guess that by logical extension MRAK would have become, by now, a global Right-Wing mass-media outlet had it been founded and run by a man, instead of being the lightly-read local rag that it is. And one wonders if Mr. Sturman feels the same way about the achievements of his wife, or his daughters, if he has either. Most likely, and justing by his tone, he expects them to stay at home and push out an endless stream of white, male babies.
???????
Aside from anti-conservative hatred, what exactly is your point?
Let’s talk about a few of the facts, please.
1. The director of the USSS was appointed because Jill Biden is a friend, not because the woman has demonstrated any special ability to lead a security force.
2. The USSS under her leadership IS focusing on equity, not ability. And, that shows.
3. In what world is it a good idea to assign five foot nothing women to shield a six plus foot tall man?
4. Seriously? The head of the USSS tried to convince us that a sloped roof was the reason it did not have anyone on it? While there were teams on other sloped roofs?
.
This has nothing to do with misogyny in any way. It has everything to do with ability.
.
Finally, if the top 100 brain surgeons on the planet were men, but some hospital director insisted that women were just as good, would you want to use that hospital? Substitute pilot and airline, or driver and bus, or any other career you want.
Whidbey Thedog, I’m a human adult female and I don’t see misogyny in this article. I see facts being stated as they are. Instead of name-calling and apparently claiming that the article is not factually based, why don’t you state facts as to how the actions of the Secret Service Agents kept President Trump from almost being killed at that rally. I’m glad you stand up for women, but to say all women can do any job well is not true. The same goes for men — they cannot do all jobs well. Ms. Cheatle has stated she wants 30% more women on the Secret Service force by 2030. That’s fine if they can do the job well. What gets me is that Ms. Cheatle said she did not have agents on the rooftop of the building the sniper was on because it was slanted and therefore was a safety hazard for the agents. Well the counter-snipers were on a roof that appeared to me to have more of a slope than the roof that the sniper was on. Also, counter-snipers should have been on the water tower in that area, which was the highest viewpoint in the area. On the video of the assassination attempt, I witnessed one female agent who could not get her gun in her holster and looked as if she was confused and didn’t know what she was supposed to be doing. That woman should not be in the Secret Service as a bodyguard. Again, I did not read anywhere in the article where the author or the editor were hater of women (the definition of misogyny) or where women have sold themselves out.
Oh, come on, really? One of the main points of the article is to show that the Secret Service failed because of woman was in charge, and that she had probably been put there due to DEI initiatives. It’s plain as the nose on my face.
Well it is plain as the nose on my face that she did fail in her job as leader of the Secret Service, as well as did those who were working under her that day. President Trump and two other people were injured when they were shot and a man was shot to death trying to protect his family from the assassin. Do you call that success on behalf of the Secret Service? If a man had been in charge of the Secret Service instead of Cheatle, it would still be that person’s failure to lead that agency as they should be required to do. Cheatle did say that the buck stops with her, so the blame is on her. Has nothing to do with her sex or gender — it’s all about her ability to do the job. Same goes for those serving under her and she has stated that DEI is her goal — not the ability of those she hires. Article still has nothing to do with misogyny.
Apparently, reading comprehension is not your strong point.
Tell you what. I will support your position 100% if you can point out the exact wording in that proves your point. I need direct copy/paste quotes, and they must be in context… (I will be checking.)
If women are so apt to do the job of men, why is it they have to adopt masculine traits in order to do so? In this case, even after adopting such traits, they were still unable to do the job as assigned. Maybe it is not a male/female problem at all. Maybe it is a matter of merit and integrity. Perhaps the hiring should not be done by filling out DEI check boxes, but by having the actual skills and experience to do the job.
So what if someone is the first woman of color to do something? That matters not. What matters is if she is qualified!
You’ve lost ALL of your common sense, haven’t you Whidbey? Just how can you even think like that?
Rank coward’s comment from Whidbey, who wouldn’t know how to fire a water pistol.
“Outright incompetence of the SS”. Or competence ? Perhaps by design. Doubt any narrative from the government.
Settle down little Doggy, settle down.
What good for the goose is good for the commander. Shouldn’t DEI require NBA teams to field short people? Shouldn’t people who can’t sing lead the National Anthem?
Let us ignore the Whidbey troll and get to some factual criticism of Mr. Sturman’s fine column.
Sturman takes a hard-hitting stance regarding incompetence, but fails to grapple with the increasingly undeniable facts of the ruthless and sinister tentacles of the Globalists. They are perfectly happy to allow “incompetence” take the blame for any incidents. And yes, we need to go back generations. It is diabolical, and as such has been hard at work trying to destroy anything good about humanity in general. Unless and until we revisit 9-11, any analysis of July 13 will fall short. Trump was a bit of a chump. He did not fully appreciate how evil this all is in his “Drain the Swamp” 1st term. He likely does now.
And he is not a saint, but IF he wins — we have a long way to go, and momentum turns on a dime — he may succumb to the Ring of Power in ways that none of his supporters would like. Tucker Carlson’s recent comments that “All this is going to turn out fine” is, IMHO, naive.
Lastly: citing the “high ground” at Gettysburg, from a tactical viewpoint, is OK, but please never extoll Lincoln nor his Gettysburg Address. I will let Mencken’s comments do that for me. Look them up. It is an insult to the sacrifice and courage of the Southern soldiers, most of whom were fighting not for slavery but for their independence from the tyranny of central government.
Most subsequent commenters, sincere as they may be, won’t understand this until they read the “Politically Incorrect” series of books, or find the late Joe Sobran’s (fired as editor of the National Review for the same reasons Carlson was booted from Fox News) columns online.

Correct. The Davos crowd knows they cannot return the world to a time when the ‘elites’ held all the wealth and power, while the average person scraped by without the average person choosing subservience over freedom. Diversity, climate change, etc… are all tools they are using to convince the average person the WEF vision of the world is the right one.
I think the people who voted for Biden should have to pay reparations for the damage they have caused our country. D.E.I= didn’t earn it, does not take a genius to know that it was going to be a disaster when you hire people based on skin color or gender instead of merit.
The assassination attempt investigation is far from complete. The known facts clearly raise many questions yet to be answered.
DEI is obviously one of many masochistic policies vomited on our country by the destroy America cult. It should not take us away from finding out what actually occurred on July 13th.
Crooks was highly motivated to take the shot. No matter what. Two years of rifle practice on the range. He sought higher ground. The plan was to get Trump. The shot was accurate. He left his body armour in his car and carried an explosives detonator on his person, as a means to distract and possibly escape. This assassin was programmed to kill. But, BY WHO?
@RonD:
high level, deep state Democrats within DOJ, CIA, FBI, SS, and Biden White House. Who else!
……the MEDIA.
It doesn’t make a lot of difference on the djt shooting, as it seems likely to be a inside job.
It’s almost certain there was another shooter. That’s why today questions were asked about how many shell casings were on the roof. The number of gun shots can be heard on multiple recordings by different bystanders. The director of the S.S refused to answer the question but said she knew the number.
