President-elect Donald Trump has named Chris Wright as his secretary of the Department of Energy, and the second-named member of the newly formed Council of National Energy, which is being led by North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, who will serve as Interior secretary for the Trump Administration..
Wright is a leading technologist and entrepreneur in energy, having worked in nuclear, solar, geothermal, and oil and gas. He pioneered the shale revolution that fueled American energy independence, and helped transform global energy markets and geopolitics, Trump said.
Wright has known and worked for years with Burgum.
“This team will drive U.S. Energy Dominance, which will drive down Inflation, win the A.I. arms race with China (and others), and expand American Diplomatic Power to end Wars all across the World,” Trump said.
Trump is empowering Wright to drive innovation and cut red tape.
Chris Wright Biography:
Self-described tech nerd turned entrepreneur, Wright is the founder, chief executive officer, and chairman of the Board of Liberty Energy (NYSE: LBRT).
Wright completed an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at MIT and graduate work in Electrical Engineering at UC Berkeley and MIT. He founded Pinnacle Technologies and served as CEO from 1992 to 2006. Pinnacle created the hydraulic fracture mapping industry, and its innovations helped launch commercial shale gas production in the late 1990s.
He was chairman of Stroud Energy, an early shale gas producer, before selling to Range Resources in 2006. He founded and served as executive chairman of Liberty Resources and Liberty Midstream Solutions until its sale in 2024.
In addition to his role at Liberty, he sits on the Board of Directors for Urban Solutions Group, Oklo Inc. (NYSE: Oklo), and EMX Royalty Corp. (NYSE: EMX). He also serves on the board of numerous nonprofit organizations, including ACE Scholarships, and as a founding board member of the Bettering Human Lives Foundation.
Wright grew up and currently lives in Colorado with his wife, Liz.
Only Trump has the KSAs – knowledge, skills, and ability – to build such an amazing coalition of experts and successful Americans. He continues to amaze.
Good pick here. All of Trump’s pick are worthy and good.
Adult selection.
Fantastic! But where does Dunleavy fit in?
Dunleavy has 2 more yrs as gov; we need him to usher in the School Choice cirriculum for parents’ right to choose where their children get educated. After that Trump can appoint him into a cabinet position…. As I understand it, many cabinet positions are 2-year positions; …. maybe Dunleavy can head up the School Choice cabinet position … he’ll have had 2 yrs working on the transfer particulars so be a perfect fit. There’s also a possible heigthened interest in Arctic for security from poaching of U.S. Fisheries grounds as well as military threats. Lots of possible fits. OH yeah, how about Senator … we all know Murkowsky is not a Republican & will never get re-elected to that position again.
There is no way Dunleavy would have been chosen because of his state law suite against the federal government on behalf of foreign owned pebble Ltd after President Trump denied Army Corp. of engineers permits for the proposed mine.
Summarize; When Trump says America first he means America first.
Maybe, maybe not; Trump’s 2nd passion is filing law suites; they’d have lots in common.
Next:
Trump names Mike Dunleavy as ambassador to Mauritania !
This is outrageous!!!
His next appointment better be based on an individuals sexual perversion.
I must face facts: The chances are becoming quite slim that Governor Dunleavy will be invited to become part of the White House team. My prediction was wrong.
Good that Trump realized early in his hiring process that Mike Dunleavy is not competent to run either the Department of Interior or Department of Energy. His degree in elementary education does not compare in any way with the degrees both Governor Doug Burgum and Chris Wright earned and the experience they possess. Bad ol’ Mike and his comic relief sidekick, Dave, should remain where they are.
I agree. Cp. hopefully the day of lifelong bureaucrats attempting to run our country is over. Our country thrives on a citizen government run by people that know what it takes to make a good product and to make payroll on Thursday .
If you have never made a product or payroll you’re not qualified to run anything.
From sources outside Alaska I have heard good things about this fellow. Too bad it shuts the door on Sarah Palin. Perhaps she can score a new reality-TV gig on cable channel 78.
If we can get the disturbing and unqualified Matt Gaetz as Attorney General, I will double-down for the nomination of Megan Thee Stallion at Treasury. Perhaps Matt and Megan can do a video together. Maybe they have already done one!
I’m refreshed the pendulum
Has crested and begun to swing in the opposite direction
It is amazing Wright still lives in Colorado given the state’s leftward lurch and Net Zero idiocy to power Colorado with solar and windmills.
According to Ron Paul, the DOE needs to be eliminated entirely. Its primary mission statement, at its formation in 1977, was to foster US energy independence. It has over 100,000 employees (including contracted) with a $32B budget; however, it has never come close to achieving its goals. It needs to go bye-bye.
Perhaps it will re-read its’ mission statement and perform appropriately. That is what appears to be the intended course. Let us pray.( and hope they let Elon help streamline it)
Having worked in O&G for most of my career I’m familiar with Mr. Wright. He is a deep thinker about all things energy. He also loves the outdoors. This is a great pick by DJT.
