Truckers close in on Canada’s capital

The Canadian truck-and-trailer convoy organizers say that protesting truckers across Canada, already part of the longest convey in world history, plan to arrive in Ottawa by Jan. 29.

According to some associated with the protest against Covid vaccine mandates, there are also 62,000 American truckers who have joined the protest, some who cannot cross the border, but are waiting at border crossings.

The convoy has created a groundswell of support across Canada and the USA, so much so that Facebook took one of the main organizing pages down from its social media site. The page had grown to nearly 600,000 followers, and has since moved to the Gab social media platform. Other support pages are still on Facebook.

A GoFundMe site raised nearly $6 million in just 10 days to support the truckers and their cause, and Canadians have come out by the thousands to stand along the roads in support of the truckers as they pass through their communities. GoFundMe has now frozen the account while it determines how the funds will be spent.

“Our goal is to protect the generosity of donors and ensure that every dollar donated on our platform reaches the right place,” a GoFundMe spokesperson said in a statement. “We require that fundraisers be transparent about the flow of funds and have a clear plan for how those funds will be spent.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has characterized the truckers as a fringe group of extremists and said that 90 percent of Canadian truckers have been vaccinated for Covid.

The rolling protest to Ottawa started after the Trudeau administration imposed a vaccine mandate on truckers crossing the border from the United States. The U.S. has also implemented a vaccine mandate for foreign truckers.

The convoy protest was announced Jan. 15 in a press release, which set the start date for the convoy as Jan. 23:

“On January 15th a small team of Alberta truckers, their family members and friends, came to the decision that the Government of Canada has crossed a line with implementing Covid-19 vaccine passports and vaccine mandates. As of today, we now have the support of millions of Canadians from across the country. it is time for these vaccine mandates and surveillance tracking software to end,” the group wrote in its press release.

“Our goal remains the same, to encourage the government of Canada to repeal its cross border Covid tracking passport, phone app, and ALL Covid-19 vaccine mandates,” the group wrote.

The initial convoy was to be just 1,600 trucks, but the number now estimated to be taking part is close to 50,000 the group said. Many of the trucks have more than one person in the cabs.

“Any statements made indicating that we are in some way ‘separatism’ or ‘terrorists’ are categorically false and an attempt to smear this movement. It is saddening that this kind of rhetoric is coming from Prime Minister Trudeau and his government instead of protecting our basic freedoms outlined in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, a document that was ironically signed into law by Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Justin and his government seeks to do the opposite. He is continually issuing defamatory comments and maligning large segments of the population. If history has taught us anything, these are actions that cannot be ignored. We are peaceful, hard-working Canadians who love our country and want the betterment for all Canadians,” the group said.

Due to the massive participation and support from Canadians, the group says that it realizes people are going to be inconvenienced by the convoy.

“For that, we are truly sorry, and we will do our very best to limit the disruptions to your lives. We ask that Canadians remember we are fighting for everyone’s freedoms and it’s the political class that has abandoned us all,” they wrote.

I’ll tell you where: in the memory hole of suppression and censorship, that’s where. They are doing their damnedest to ignore and deny this groundswell of opposition to their medical fascist tyranny, but let’s see them try to ignore and deny the soon-to-be empty grocery shelves that are going to quickly be the result.

        I only hope that this truckers’ revolt brings down the authoritarian regime of that utterly totalitarian and evil Justine Trudeau — and then moves on to Washington DC to do the same for us.

            Statists invariably love to disingenuously tar the concept of liberty with the words “chaos” and “anarchy”. Although in principle I am indeed a libertarian anarchist, as government by its very nature is founded on, and based upon, the exercise of power —- whci is to say, coercion and force — and I do not believe that any moral and practical social order can be so founded and ordered.

  2. I am inspired by the collective spirit of so many North Americans who in years past have been neighborly and friends. Today that same collective spirit of exists among the people of North America (Canada and the USA) but apparently not among its leaders. For this Alaskan leader, I applaud our North American truckers, families, and friends who know that value of hard work, economy, cooperation, and the North American dream. I hope our national leaders awaken to these values too. Best to all.

    All they require is a bank account!

    My brother set up a GoFundMe to help pay for my dads cancer treatments. Donated money went into his bank account, he withdrew it and gave it to my dad. GoFundMe didn’t follow up to keep an eye on any sort of “clear plan for how those funds (were) spent”!

    What a crock of horse manure. And a lawsuit in the making.

  5. Thank you so very much for this Suzanne. You have done the Freedom Convoy right and went straight to the organizers for the real scoop. Not all the supporters and drivers are unvaccinated. You have a mix of unvaccinated and vaccinated Canadians supporting this convoy of taking back their freedoms. Thank you again for reporting on this true.

Please uphold your father’s constitution reneged upon by Trudeau or Canada is welcome to sign the US Constitution in each provence. It was written for all Americans on the continent and with them in mind too.

      • Our founders sprang from British Common Law. They obtained the written sealed right to travel the king’s highway ANYWHERE on this continent. Our founders got that right for the colonies and inhabitants on this continent and they did not relinquish ANY of their rights or their children’s rights. Canada became “separate” from colonies later. Our rights of a jury trial came from Charlemagne in the Magna Carta which is the great charter of rights for all those English speakers in the world no matter where they are at. So you see the French had a bit a desire to withdraw from the states. It was not known when the Lees of Virginia wrote the Lee’s Declaration of Independence that those up north weren’t joining. It was for them too. They just needed to ratify it. We neved relinquished any of our rightts until the UN’s covid.

As we search for ways to overcome this continent-wide communist insurrection that has gained its access to, and control of, the halls of power by using computerized voting manipulation for over two decades now. In this time we find fewer avenues to resolve this peacefully, which is clearly our wish.

We have relied upon our commraderie with our Canadian friends always for commerce and it ss our great joy to shop in Canada, marvel at the beauty of the provinces, go the museums and cultural events and even their universities. The encroachments delimiting their freedom has harmed us economically and psychologically. I urge everyone to highly value our western histories of liberty and defense of literal freedom.   17. We’re getting a pretty good report of the folks involved now. Sounds like they’ve blocked public highways, borders, and even some are trying to force homeless shelters to provide them with food. Some reports of medical emergencies delayed due to these hooligans pretending the vaccines are a threat to their personal freedom. Obviously they’ve never faced a real challenge in their lives. Total clowns.

  18. As a foreigner who has absolutely no relation to the issue, I can say that the situation looks odd from both perspectives. On one hand, making vaccination mandatory might be called common sense as in checking your intimate partner for possible illnesses that you may inherit on close contact. Of course, there are two ways around: if they disagree and you aren’t satisfied with that, break up, or take the risk if you love them enough. But you cannot simply break up with truckers who provide vital supplies and most probably work their buns out for that, and rejecting them like that shows that they aren’t loved enough. Making vaccination mandatory might be o’kay, but then they must cover all the associated expenses, including but not limited to vaccination preparations, probably transportation of the patient, and additional treatment in case something goes wrong. But then again, normal people don’t quite like suspicious liquids injected in them. On the other hand, as supposedly law-abiding citizens, truckers are free to refuse such sort of regulation, and I believe the right to do so is directly stated in their respective “freedom-establishing” major laws. They should be let to pass without being vaccinated, as long as they’re healthy on every single occasion. A compromise would certainly be nice, except for that in modern world compromise leads to more cunningnessp. (I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a little percent of people on both sides covertly continuing to handle the supplies. Such things happen during every conflict.).
    I suppose there’s a customs house at the border anyway, so why not use the power and authority to establish a live (non-virtual) system to check those passing for viruses and stuff. Or at least find some reasonable homeless who want a job, teach them to use the scanners, and send to the outpost. If a trucker is not ill, let them in/out, and if they happen to be, well, it’s in their interest to leave and get special treatment anyway.
    I do realize that this opinion takes much from the rose-coloured perspective and lacks some important variables, and can even be takes as somewhat offensive, but I never aimed at offending anyone. I felt like sharing it and I don’t think I’m all that wrong.
