Republicans: United we stand in 2020

By REP. SHARON JACKSON

I am moved to hear how successful the Republican Party Unity Gala was on Friday evening in Anchorage.

It broke my heart to miss the event, but I attended the 2019 American Legislative Exchange Council, which was very educational. Alaska Attorney General Kevin Clarkson was a guest speaker, and he did a fabulous job representing the great state of Alaska. He received a standing ovation.

At least 10 members of the Republican League of Anchorage/Eagle River Club, known as the Republican Women of Anchorage, were in attendance at the gala.  They shared pictures with me through the evening, because they knew I longed to be there to share this special event. Anyone that knows me, knows I appreciate the value of “Unity”.

I would first like to thank our Alaska Republican Party Chairman Glenn Clary, gala organizer Jodi Taylor, and all those who worked endless hours in putting this event together.

I would also like to give a special shout out to those that made donations so that our active duty military members and veterans were able to participate in this powerful unity of people who love our Alaska.  I know they enjoyed this event and felt apart of our ARP community.

I feel we needed this event after a challenging year.  This shows the resilience of our people and gives hope for better years to come.

I’ve learned a lot as a freshmen legislator but there are two things that are at the top the list of many:

1. Treat every day as a new opportunity to do the best I can for the people of Alaska.

2. Learn to separate what people do from who they are. It makes it easier to forgive and remember we are all human, and pray we have another day to right any wrongs we have done to offend anyone.

It is important to keep our integrity in the Republican Party we represent and the love for God, family and country.  Representing the voices of the people who depend on us to do the “right” thing,  I have faith that the Unity Gala’s success shows there is promise for a victorious 2020.  “United We Stand, Divided we Fall.”

Let’s move into 2020 to “Make Alaska Great Again.”

  1. If the House and Senate don’t totally reorganize with leadership that stands with Governor Dunleavy, then you just wasted a whole lot of Republicans time reading this.

The old saying goes, ” actions speak louder than words”.

  2. Trust me…..despite the gala and all the good feelings it may engender, conservatives in Alaska will be screwed over again next session by a traitorous group of GOP legislators. Take it to the bank.

    • Mark,
Maybe/probably, next session, conservatives will be screwed over again. With the leftists holding the legislative reins, most assuredly. The place and method to take care of our disingenuous “GOP” legislators (and leftists) is at the polls. Vote them out. That’s really our only means of “Making Alaska Great Again”. Sound familiar? It’ a fact. If there ever was or will be, a time for conservatives to come together and vote the vote, it’s the very next election. Talk is cheap. Actions, actions, actions, voting, is where we flex our muscles and “take care of business”. If that doesn’t happen, kiss Alaskan/American values, charity, proper schooling, PFD and all assorted things that Alaskans/Americans love, goodbye. Even handed justice, fair play and civil liberties will be in our rear view mirrors. Socialism, elitism, taxes to the sky, a two tiered justice system, more crime, are only some of the “wonderful” benefits of the democrat agenda for Alaska and, yes, America.

  3. It will be nice to get to know my appointed representative other than from an article from Must Read Alaska.
Seams like a nice person. Unfortunately the Cloud of being politically appointed after the elected politician jumped ship AGAIN to a higher paying job in the Dunlevey administration. This time Nancy did her homework and she met the statuary requirements for State Employment. ( Recall Parnell appointment, a new level of dumb.) Most people in Ms Jacksons appointed district never heard of her. Why, simple she has never been a active part of the community.
While everyone is back slapping each other, the sins of Tukerman Babcock haunt the Republican Party. Many of us from Chugiak Eagle River lobbied for the logical Person to take the vacant seat, the person who came in 2nd in the Republican Primary. Someone known in the local community. No we got the Politically Correct Option. Like I said Ms Jackson appears to be a nice person. For the record the 2nd vote getter in the Republican Primary was retired Military. So I guess he meet the threshold of requirements to be our State Representative from Chugiak Eagle River also.

  4. “I attended the 2019 American Legislative Exchange Council”
    .
Readers might want to do some research on ALEC — it’s one of those groups, like Americans for Prosperity, that is allowing wealthy lower 48 funders to take over Alaskan politics. Corporate bureaucrats write “models bills” for legislators, meaning the bill “your” legislator puts forward might have written by someone in the DC suburbs.

One of the great things about living in Alaska is the access we to the people who represent us. I see my representative when I get groceries and agree or disagree I know I can have my opinion listened to. If I were living I California there is no chance I could even get a rep on the phone. The American Legislative Exchange Council is trying to change that — instead of Alaskan bills written by Alaskans we have Alaskan legislators acting as a mask for lower 48 interests.

    • Hey, thanks for the link. Interesting that it comes up as an “article” hosted by the website of “The Center for Media and Democracy” an organization well known for its support of “progressive” causes and for attacking conservatives.
      .
Next time, why don’t you try “full disclosure up front” and just tell people your source is a left leaning mouthpiece for “progressive” causes.

    • Wow, it’s even more ridiculous than I imagined…
      .
      .
“The Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) is a Wisconsin-based left-wing media, opposition research, and agitation group. CMD has its origins in the anti-corporate and conspiratorial career of its founder John Stauber and his co-author Sheldon Rampton. While Stauber headed CMD, he and Rampton wrote books alleging that the George W. Bush Administration sought to turn the country into a right-wing one-party state and that mad cow disease would become a substantial public health crisis.”

Sounds like we need to send them a whole case of aluminum foil. They need new hats.

  5. It was a wonderful event and I am proud to know Sharon and all of the wonderful ladies that worked hard to make this event happen. To the people making negative comments on here I have a question for you. Have you gotten involved in your District? I know that I have. I was feeling the same way, so I did something about it. Roll up your sleeves, attend District meetings, better yet fill an empty seat in your District! That is when Conservatives will see a big difference. Fight for Alaska. The left is organized. We need to be too.

  6. Representative Jackson, you may be one of the good ones.
    .
Number 2 on the list should be: read, learn, and practice what’s in Art Chance’s book “Red on Blue: Establishing Republican Governance”. It’s your instruction book, your user’s manual.
    .
Number 3 might be getting familiar with the “Alaska 2019 Lobbyist Directory”. Looks like a list of lobbyists’ reservations at the public trough, but it’s a big (downloadable) cast of characters waiting for you, Representative Jackson, in the Holy City of Juneau. Buyers invest about $20M annually in lobbyists and they want something for their money… which is you.
    .
And don’t forget your Proverbs 6:16-19. If what we see outside is anything like what’s inside, you be careful not to get any on you… it won’t come off… you’ll turn into one of them… we don’t want that.
    .
Otherwise, have fun, spread the Word… can’t hurt, might do some good.
