TRUMP VOWS VETO

Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska joined with a bipartisan group of senators to pass a resolution that limits President Trump’s ability to launch military operations.

The War Powers Resolution passed 51-45, and came after debate over the president’s reasons for a drone strike that killed Iran’s top terrorist, Qasem Soleimani, in January.

Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine sponsored the bill. He was joined by all Democrats along with Republicans Murkowski, Susan Collins, Jerry Moran, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Todd Young, Lamar Alexander, and Bill Cassidy.

The Democrat-controlled House has already passed a similar resolution.

However, the measure lacks the 67-vote threshold needed to override a presidential veto.

The resolution reiterates that Congress hasn’t declared war against Iran and would require Trump to remove US troops from any “hostilities” with Iran within 30 days, unless he has approval of Congress.

Trump had already signaled his intent to veto it: “If my hands were tied, Iran would have a field day,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “The Democrats are only doing this as an attempt to embarrass the Republican Party. Don’t let it happen!”

“It is very important for our Country’s SECURITY that the United States Senate not vote for the Iran War Powers Resolution. We are doing very well with Iran and this is not the time to show weakness. Americans overwhelmingly support our attack on terrorist Soleimani…” he wrote.

Murkowski was asked by reporters on Wednesday if it appeared the president had learned any lessons since being impeached.

“Well, there haven’t been very strong indicators this week that he has,” Murkowski said.

  1. Murkowski is not only a traitor to Alaska but to the nation’s security. This political back-stabbing has two years left and then Alaska will finally be rid of the Murkowskis!

  2. Let’s hope that the majority of Alaskans who believe in this President remember Ms. Murkowski when it comes time to replace her in the Senate. She has betrayed the trust of her Republican coworkers, but follows along with the liberal Democrats and her write-in constituents. Shame, Lisa, … just plain ole shame!

  3. The President is the Commander in Chief. Any hostile nations would love to have our Presidents hands tied when they threaten our national security. So many weak legislators, so many blind ones with little understanding of what it takes to protect our freedoms. What a great president we have. So,so very sad.

    • Look folks, the War Powers Act doesn’t weaken the president. We can still launch drone strikes and kill bad guys if we have knowledge they perpetrated a crime in the past or was going to do so in the future. It just means you can’t declare war on Iran because he woke up with a hard on. We weren’t going to do that anyway. So basically this is just a blowhard move by the Senate to do something that has already been done. Lisa has a long way to go before I vote for her again for no other reason than she voted to kill babies and then in an email to me she says it’s a woman’s health issue. No Lisa, it’s a baby’s life issue.

  4. Didn’t see Romney on that list of traitors.
For the sake of argument. President Trump was not impeached. The house may have voted for but it was squished by the Senate. My understanding of what I was taught in High School, over 50 years ago, about Our US Government it requires both the House and Senate to Impeach.

Looks like “FrankenDaughter” is the one who hasn’t learned any lessons, nor will she!!

  6. And just what “lesson” was the President supposed to learn from the insane impeachment attempt? Don’t trust Democrats? Lesson already learned.

  7. None of the frothing libs ever protest outside of Sullivan’s office trying to change his mind on any decisions. We need to get real conservatives in office at the fed and state levels. Enough is enough.
