The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services on Tuesday announced one new case of COVID-19 in Alaska. The new case is in Anchorage.

The total case count in Alaska is 371. In Anchorage, a total of 190 cases have been diagnosed, less than half a percent of the Anchorage population, since the first Anchorage case on March 2.

Anchorage has averaged three cases per day since the outbreak first arrived in Alaska’s largest city.

Recovered cases in Alaska now total 277, which leaves 94 active cases, a drop of about 10 percent from Monday.

Some 22,723 tests have been conducted, or about 345 tests a day since testing began on March 2. One more hospitalization was reported, bringing the total cumulative hospitalizations to 38.

No new deaths due to COVID-19 were reported. The last death in Alaska attributed to COVID-19 was on April 11, and brought the total who died inside the state to 7, while two other Alaskans died while out of state.

This reflects data from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on May 4 that posted on the DHSS Coronavirus Response AK COVID-19 Cases and Testing Dashboard.

Currently 12 Alaskans are hospitalized with the illness.

The death rate in Alaska from COVID-19 stands at 2.44 percent. As for hospitalizations, nearly 10 percent of those who have gotten the virus have had to be hospitalized at some point.

  1. The CDC just released their ‘new’ figures on Wuhan v deaths in the U.S. Now, it’s actually 38,000 (unless their ‘release’ is a misprint). Talk about conflicting statements. Yesterday, before this ‘news release’ , it was over 120,000. It boils down to the issue of what and who to believe. Sure doesn’t seem to be the “experts” that are presiding over the unconstitutional lockdowns and suppression of American rights and freedoms. Enough is enough, Alaska and America. The left thinks they have us right where they want us. We should let them know they’re still wrong. I’m doing my share of writing to them but I don’t see any change because of it (didn’t expect any). The democrat socialists are using the Wuhan v as a political lever and the citizens be damned. They could care less what damage is done to America by their “policies”. This ‘debacle’ needs to be ended now.
Another bit of trivia: Fauci likely acted illegally when he “funded” Wuhan v research in China, out of CDC funds. Corona virus experimentation/study was banned in the U.S. in 2014. Fauci and his Chinese buddies just moved their “research” to China, with American taxpayer (CDC) funding, furnished by Fauci, as head of CDC. How’s that for the leading “expert” on Wuhan v?

    • You’re confusing a NIH ban on Gain of Function Research with CDC research funding and it’s not as you present it.

      https://osp.od.nih.gov/biotechnology/gain-of-function-research/

The US ban, instituted by the NIH was for calling a moratorium on bioweapon optimization or enhancement of viruses in labs in the US, this after problems and leaks in the CDC’s labs in the US.

The NIH funded the lab’s work in China.

The US lifted the ban on US labs in December of 2017 and there is a question if coronaviruses might have leaked from US labs since.

Fauci did nothing illegal, again, he works for the CDC and the NIH funded the lab work in China.

Want to list your source for this illegal act by Fauci?

The US HHS controls the NIH, so responsibility lies with Trump’s director of the HHS.

And Trump has had 5 different directors of the HHS since January 20th, 2017.

      • Leaks in the CDC? Security in China? Last I checked, “moratorium” meant to put a stop to. I said Fauci “likely” acted illegally. He hasn’t been charged yet. The NIH and CDC are hand in glove. Fauci supporter? Just what political philosophy did you say you were of? I’ll bet you fully support WHO too.

        • Wrong again, Ben

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the primary agency of the United States government responsible for biomedical and public health research.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the leading national public health institute of the United States.

Its main goal is to protect public health and safety through the control and prevention of disease, injury, and disability in the US and internationally.[3] The CDC focuses national attention on developing and applying disease control and prevention.

Fauci is the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases within the NIH.
Fauci can’t fund anything with CDC funds he doesn’t work for the CDC.

Try reading the links I provided you, it might help you to stop misrepresenting the facts so much.

      • Bill writes:
“Fauci did nothing illegal, again, he works for the CDC and the NIH funded the lab work in China.”
Please tell me why it is OK for the USA to spend almost $4 million funding bioweapon “research” with a communist party in China?
        Was this approved by Congress?
Is anything approved by Congress these days?
Everyone thought a few Russian trolls on FB was the end of democracy, yet the American public will turn their heads when deep state operatives like Fauci fund CCP terrorism at the expense of U.S. Taxpayers?

        • Fauci didn’t fund anything, his bosses at the NIH did.

NIH falls under the control of HHS and Trump has installed 5 different directors there and none of them nor their boss is competent.

Your questions should be asked of the Trump adminstration. That’s where the accountability lies.

          • Bill,
Instead of bashing President Trump, make a coherent argument for the issue. Fauci is up to his eyeballs in the Wuhan crap. From the U.S. to China, the weasel was there and still is. Money and all.

  2. Hold the phone Ollie. The Wuhan v fatalities just got revised again. Now, it’s 69,000,

    • Recall the response coordinator for the White House coronavirus task force said on April 7 anyone who dies and tests positive for coronavirus will be labeled as a death resulting from coronavirus, regardless of what else killed him.
      .
Then watch what happens when America’s Masked Avengers decide they don’t want to wear masks 24/7/365 anymore and get sick with what everybody else got over months ago.

    • I hate to be redundant, but the CDC decided 38,000 or 69,000 didn’t sound scary enough. For the third time today, the CDC has changed the “model” forecast. Since 38 thou and 69 thou weren’t dire enough, now it’s “170,000 dead by August”. What a bunch of clowns. They must think every American is as stupid as their left wing supporters. Anyone with an IQ above room temperature would see through their BS. Looks like CDC might be a ‘covert’ agency of the left. The ‘weasel’ in charge.

      • CDC will find the deaths to fill their “prophesy”.

Looms like Alaska has a VERY flat curve. Let’s get back to our normal normal.

      • Case counts and deaths are still climbing, we will have as many deaths on the way down from our high as there were on the way up and when we count deaths in the coming second wave, 170,000 may very well be short of the actual death toll.

And most of those deaths were avoidable, due to incompetent political decisions driving policy instead of science.

  3. Comrade Tobin, Kindly recuse yourself in some Quarantine hole if you like, however given the real world data in Alaska for Kung Flu, please stop playing Totalitarian Dictator to the rest of us. The sky is not falling and those of us who still recall what freedom is want to go back to work full throttle, in order to support you and the other Chicken Little’s in your dystopian fantasy.

    • COVID-19 is now the leading cause of death in the United States, killing more people per day than the previous top contenders, heart disease and cancer.

Daily death counts run from over 1300 a day to 2300 a day in the last couple of days alone.

Case counts and death rates are still rising.

Most of the death toll in America could have been prevented.

The coming second wave, made worse by states opening up prematurely, will account for more needless and unnecessary deaths.

If you think the economy is suffering now, wait for the full impact, and that impact will be attributable to the denial and incompetence, not the science that demonstrates it could have been a far different story.

  4. All of you are still missing the boat here. The real “cover-up” is when did the Wuhan Flu actually get here on our shores? Bet ya it was a lot earlier than what “they’re” saying (they being the CDC, NIH, US DHSS). For all intent and purposes, this virus has affected more U.S. citizens than we can actually count or prove with just the test for who has the disease. Until we get a MASSIVE anti-body test, we’ll never truly know the amount of people who’ve unwillingly contracted this dreadful, dangerous virus. I personally believe the Chinese Communist Party purposely failed to release their information on what they had done, and allowed their own people to spread it around the world. We now have seen the devastating effects it has caused. Just sayin …

  5. “The death rate in Alaska from COVID-19 stands at 2.44 percent. As for hospitalizations, nearly 10 percent of those who have gotten the virus have had to be hospitalized at some point.”
With only 222723 tests done in a state with a population of 740,000 the death rate is unknown and certainly not 2.44 percent.

  6. The numbers of deaths reported are very questionable, both here and abroad, for a variety of reasons. There is definitely a motivation to report higher numbers.

Beyond that it also just sort of seems like some people are rooting for the virus?!

I hope I’m wrong on that.. pretty ghoulish..

  7. Bottom line: there is no “pandemic” in Alaska… at least not yet. We should not be placed under “hot zone” rules where there is a serious problem based on population density.
