A time for action, and a conservative reawakening

By:  CRAIG E. CAMPBELL

I had the pleasure of representing the Alaska Republican Party at the 2021 Republican National Committee Winter Meeting last week.

When I arrived on the evening of Jan. 5, I went to bed pleased to see both Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler leading their radical Leftist opponents in the Georgia Senate runoff.

You can imagine how shocked I was the following morning to see Loeffler had already conceded and the Perdue race was too close to call.  Sen. Perdue conceded defeat two days later.

The Democrats now control the Presidency, Senate, and House of Representatives.

Republicans took a beating in this election and that fact can not be swept under the rug with excuses. We lost. We lost big. America is now on the road to institutional socialism.

As we gathered to start the Winter Meeting, word came in that protestors were converging on the U.S. Capitol in advance of the congressional election confirmation vote.

We have all become desensitized to protests, and even riots, these past eight months. After a summer of riots in liberal cities, who would be concerned about a gathering in D.C. as the presidential confirmation vote was about to be held?

Like you, I was saddened to see the protest get violent, storming our Capitol and eventually ending with gunfire and the death of yet more Americans to the civil unrest creeping into our everyday political activities. Please pray for the families and souls of the four victims of this violence: Ashli Babbit, Rosanne Boyland, Kevin Greeson, Benjamin Phillips, and Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick.

I was very pleased with the swift repudiation of the violence by our congressional delegation and governor. I can tell you that everyone at the RNC also condemned the violence. We immediately issued the following public statement:

WASHINGTON – The members of the Republican National Committee released the following statement:

“The members of the Republican National Committee strongly condemn the violence in and around the United States Capitol Building today in Washington, DC.

These violent scenes we have witnessed do not represent acts of patriotism, but an attack on our country and its founding principles.

Our Founding Fathers established a nation of laws, not a nation of anarchy. We call for all those involved to listen to law enforcement officials and help restore order in our nation’s capital.”

We know Democrats cheated in this election and we know they outmaneuvered us in controlling the votes through fraudulent mail-in ballots and deliberate ballot harvesting. But these are not grounds for an insurrection.

With this backdrop, the Winter Meeting discussion focused on ways our Party can change to deal with this new reality of bias media coverage, liberal courts undermining the Constitution by politically interpreting the law, in many cases against the Constitution, and a corrupt election process.

I was inspired by the open and honest postmortem analysis conducted by the RNC to develop solutions to improve the process that guarantees the right to vote for every eligible voter, while protecting against nefarious actions of others.

I was inspired by Gov. Kristi Noem’s uplifting speech about the greatness of our nation and our ability to change in positive ways. She is a future leader not just for South Dakota, but for the United States.

I was inspired by RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel’s positive message of how the Republican Party can unify conservatives, by electing conservative city council and school board seats, state legislative positions, and gaining more seats in the House of Representatives in 2022.

Ambassador Niki Haley called it right when she stated we must implement voter ID laws and eliminate the mail-in system that resulted in this election corruption by Democrats.

If you have to show an ID to fly on commercial aircraft, to cash a check, and to drive a car then it is not unconstitutional to require a voter to provide an ID when casting a ballot.

It will not be easy to change the system if conservatives are divided. Democrats have done a very good job of rigging the system through legislation and courts.

Democrats have mastered the art of deceptive campaigning and skillfully keep opposing views from tubing the end game; winning elections.  Don’t believe me? Ask yourself how Anchorage ended up with nine uber-liberal assembly members.

Remaining divided ensures further gains for progressives at all levels of government. My past opinion pieces have challenged everyone to get involved, to support conservative candidates both financially and with your vote, and to even run for office if you really want to make a difference.

What we learned from the 2020 elections is that conservatives have to stop shooting inwards at each other and take aim at the real adversary — progressive socialists who are aggressively taking over America.

Now is the time to be united. Join the Alaska Republican Party. Pick a conservative candidate for the mayor of Anchorage and vote a conservative Anchorage School Board slate of candidates in April.

If we don’t solve our problems through the constitutionally established process, I fear we will be a nation divided at a level not seen since the Civil War.  We don’t need a violent revolution to change America.  Our founding fathers provided us the means to change our nation, but it takes a commitment from every freedom loving American.

We must treat these next four years as if the future of our democratic republic was at stack, because it is.

  • Attend assembly and school board meetings, testify, submit written statements, and peacefully protest against tyrannical actions of elected bodies.
  • Demand a Republican led majority in both the Alaska House and Senate.  No more coalitions controlled by Democrats.
  • Financially support conservatives running for office. I can tell you from experience, a five dollar donation makes a difference.
  • Elect a conservative mayor and conservative school board members in Anchorage this April.
  • Become more active on social media, refuting the lies and gas-lighting by Leftists.
  • Get your news from conservative new sources like this publication and subscribe to their services to ensure they remain operational and independent.  Stop subscribing to the liberal mainstream media which only feeds you lies and dishonest, biased information.
  • Never let socialism take hold in Alaska, otherwise our nation is toast.

The protests of Jan. 6 prove that we must use our constitutional system to reverse this rush to socialism/communism, otherwise we may face a violent revolution in the 21st Century. Not my call, but one must not discount that possibility if we cannot bring America back to a nation of freedom, individual liberties, independence and prosperity.

Craig E. Campbell served on the Anchorage Assembly between 1986 and 1995 and later as Alaska’s Tenth Lieutenant Governor.  He was the previous Chief Executive Officer and President for Alaska Aerospace Corporation.  He retired from the Alaska National Guard as Lieutenant General (AKNG) and holds the concurrent retired Federal rank of Major General (USAF).

  1. Mr. Campbell if you do not think the blatant out right cheating that went on is not a declaration of war you are very saddened. The Democrats proved this time that they can cheat innplain view and nothing is going to done just wait until 2022 and they stack the ballot box for a super majority in the House and Senate. They were not looking at the down ballot races this election because their eyes were on removing President Trump in 2022 they will do this down the ballot unless we doing something to stop it know abd our options are limited because by 2024 they will have stripped all means from us of stopping it.

    • I am in complete agreement. Something must be done now to hold those accountable for the massive government election fraud that took place in Alaska’s 2020 election. Not pushed down the road until the next election, when the same thing will happen again, and again, and again. This must stop, and it must stop now in 2021. The AG needs to start bringing charges against those Alaska Government Officials that blatantly violated both Alaska law and the US Constitution.

Passing the buck isn’t going to cut it this time.

  2. It will be hard to motivate at a time when our constitutional system has been thoroughly corrupted – executive, judicial, legislative (both parties) – on the national scale. And the process is well underway at the AK state and Anchorage muni level. Elections run with Dominion and open mail-in ballots will be exceedingly hard to place any trust in. The end result being – why vote?

  3. Whoo-eee! If this isn’t a collections of disinformation to rouse the radical right to rally, I don’t know what is. Maybe a Trump rally.
There is so much misinformation (i.e., lies) in this screed that it would take a looooong response to refute them all. But, no need. The “true” believers will disregard it, in spite of the evidence, and those sitting on the fence probably aren’t following this blog, so I’ll give my overtaxed fingers a rest.
Suffice to say, this is a refutation of reality. This is what needs to be feared, the refutation of reality in order to replace it with a false, anti-freedom narrative that denies the truth and attempts to replace it with a flagrant series of lies that support the cause of a profoundly anti-American philosophy that says the USA is whatever I want to believe it is, and if you don’t agree, I’m coming for you.

  4. I forgot to add that if the GOP is hoping for a future in Alaska and the world, it will have to come to terms with what is real and what isn’t. We’ve had four years of unreal. That should be a warning about where we might want to go from here.
But what do I know? I’m just a snowflake, woke, (fill in your expletive here) liberal who hasn’t a clue. Just don’t look too far down the right-wing radical road. You might scare yourself. If you don’t, be afraid. There are monsters lurking out there that have not yet been released.
On the other hand, if you are a fan of Stalin and Hitler and Mooselini, you’re probably good to go. There’s nothing like being on top of the dictatorial pile. I’ll pray for you.

    • Going back and rereading these posts, I’m struck by the thought that I am beginning to sound like yous guys. AHHHhhhh….! … …

      … … .. . *

  5. If not stealing an election then what? It used to be if you didn’t like the way somebody was doing something we could have a vote and get them out of there. Not true anymore we can have a vote but it doesn’t mean the results are going to represent what the voters wanted to have happen. Our founding fathers were the traitors of the day. They were willing to put their lives on the line for what they believed. Turning the other cheek and cut and running away is not the solution. When you take away all the other avenues to go down because the road at the end of them is blocked, sometimes rioting and revolution is the only recourse for some. I know it’s not politically correct for you to come out of the closet and make a stand on this because you have future aspirations. Live to fight another day is your motto. Turn the other cheek. That’s what many have become accustomed to doing all too often.

  6. I appreciate the article and I am glad to see a call for expanding the tent. Republicans are only 25% of our state’s electorate and are shrinking by the day across the country. In January of 2016, for example, the national number was 29% while today it sits at 24%. While remaining Republicans seem to be tightly bound, the math is impossible without good ideas, a consistent and coherent conservative platform, and a vision for the future. Ideas win elections and division-laden conspiracy theories aren’t ideas. Kristi Noem had better not be the face of the party’s future and cries of “rigged elections” won’t ever win them. With Fox News now becoming “too liberal” and “mainstream” and the most conservative daily newspaper in the nation, the Colorado Springs Gazette, breaking with the President’s actions on January 6, a good dose of reflection is a great idea. The Party of Lincoln is better than this and can be the long term fix for our ailing republic.

  7. The GOP is useless and should go away.

It’s funny to see the author giving all these “we gotta do” statements when it was the GOP who sat on its collective butts before the election when actions might have mattered.

    Too little too late

    • Agreed, the GOP are like some decrepit Marquess of Queensberry Rules prizefighter, stepping into the MMA octagon, then wondering why they keep getting their political bells rung.

  8. I wasn’t at DC, and there are any number of reasons that I might agree that what happened at the Capitol was not wise. However, I must ask you a question:

If Conservative voices being silenced is not enough, if the will of the people being thwarted by innumerable counts of voter fraud is not enough, if courts legislating from the bench in clear violation of the statues passed by the various Legislatures around the country is not enough, if NONE of these things are enough to warrant an insurrection, then what possibly could be?

Bernadette Wilson asked the question on this very forum just a day or two ago: at what point are a law-abiding people justified in fighting back against their government? I’m sure you’ve heard of “the four boxes.” Well, three of them have been removed. That doesn’t leave very many options.

    • Conservatives are not being silenced, unless you think Fox News commentaries are done by liberals. But don’t try yelling, “Fire!” in a movie theater.
Voter fraud, in this past election, is non-existent on a scale large enough to make any change in the election outcomes. Most legit reports amount to one or two bad votes among thousands. This is established fact.
Courts do not legislate. That is the job of the legislators. Courts determine the constitutionality of legislation. If a legislature passes a law that is clearly unconstitutional, like denying Republicans the right to vote, it will be be vacated by the court system.
What could be cause for an insurrection is a President who declares that a vote is fraudulent when it has been proven, over and over, that it is not. If the votes that are certified by the states are not accepted by the President, when they have been deemed legit over and over again by legit authorities and accepted by all legit authorities, then we are on our way to the next dictatorship. I’m sure Putin would approve, because this is where he is going.

  9. I believe Craig has his heart in the right place but it’s too little too late for the GOP. Here is what is about to happen:
With the complicity of many RINO’s, we are about to have Obama’s third term. Biden is just going to keep the seat warm and do as he is told. The radical left understand that they made a big mistake when they had the house, senate and White House during Obama’s first term and they failed to capitalize on it.
This time they will be sure to push their radical agenda thru in the first two years. This means massive illegal immigration, citizenship for those illegals already here, DC and Puerto Rico added as states, Supreme Court packed, Green new deal, and every other crazy idea the SJW’s can dream up.
Remember, Obama promised to remake America and he failed. That mistake won’t be repeated. The leftists know that the conservatives are drowning. They will finish the job by jamming a fire hose down our throats.

  10. In the story of David and Bathsheba, David orders his generals to isolate Uriah on the battlefield … Trump’s policies were resulting in too many republicans getting pushed away from the trough … so they isolated him on the field of battle.
They still think that nobody had seen it, but Yahweh has put it in my heart to point out their sin.
My having fulfilled that duty, I’m still against Trump for Jr’s meddling in the Pebble mine.

  11. Let’s get over the idea that we need to limit voting in order to win. That is blatantly anti-democratic. Conservatives need to win on ideas, get a clear message out, and get people to vote. That’s how the Dems won this time.

And only get your news from conservative sources? Seriously? That’s ridiculous. Don’t be afraid to read something that challenges you. If you’re too weak in your convictions that an article on CNN turns you into a die-hard liberal, well, you were probably already there. On the other hand, if more people were open-minded enough to try to understand the other side, there just might be hope for our country.

  12. You’re right Craig, I just hope we can pull it off. I’m amazed at the wackos commenting on this. It’s going to be difficult getting our message out.

  13. Getting our message out?? Good luck explaining to all the masses on the dole that we conservatives believe you have to work towards your happiness(whatever that might be). Taking what I produce in the daily grind of pursuing MY happiness, just to give it to the guy who feels he shouldn’t have to is not only wrong and immoral, it’s straight up stealing.
Long ago the masses figured out that they could vote themselves money. They think this free money they get is just conjured out of thin air. They’re partially right… the money that’s printed out of thin air is how much other people’s money is lacking to give away to the non-productive. Take my money to kill babies. Take my money to give to those who hate me and my country. Take my money to give Sally with the 7 kids by 5 daddies so she can keep right on poppin em out. She found out the more mouths she has to feed the more money “the government” gives her each month. And man, that’s hardly even the beginning.
So please… how exactly are we suppose to take our conservative message to the dumb masses. I don’t think there are enough of us left that produce anything to win this back. It’s just been too long with handing out the people’s money for it to be reigned back in, sadly.

    • Over many decades select groups have worked out the criteria for certain high-paying jobs, and have taught each other how to align their resume with them. It’s called “Good-Old-Boys-Club”. If you’re not one of them, you somehow always don’t quite make the grade. None of them will coach you in the “secrets”.
That is bad enough, but then they want to gloat all over you, claiming to be so offended having to support you … that’s insult to injury.
The dumb masses see right through you. We also outnumber you considerably, which may be the reason for increased mil rates. Voting in favor of the tax du jour is one way of sticking it to you.

  14. “Over many decades select groups have worked out the criteria for certain high-paying jobs, and have taught each other how to align their resume with them. It’s called ‘Good-Old-Boys-Club”’.”

You mean like Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris, and Chuck Schumer?

If you think the bulk of Anchorage Conservatives are part of the “Good Old Boys’ Club,” you’re delusional. So good job, bro. Continue “Sticking it the [wrong] Man.” The Good Old Boy’s Club is currently laughing their collective ***es off at how they’ve duped and divided America. ?

    • When I worked at Sheep Creek, a pipeline camp just North of Valdez, I was the only Native. All the rest were from Texas and Oklahoma. The hiring boards were Texans and Oklahomans. The good old boys hired the ones most closely resembling them.
I was the camp carpenter, ran the sewage treatment plant, the diesel electric plant, and maintained everything housekeeping and in the kitchen.
I have the skill sets, but many a time elsewhere, the good old boys hired me as the token Native, and I moved scrap from one pile to another. One of their kids, straight out of school, will usually get the good jobs before I will. If I happen to be holding that job, they will find cause to move me aside, and put their kid in it. Yup! This kind of stuff is what caused Affirmative Action. So tell me about it, good old boy……….

      • Let me make sure I understand this correctly: you once had a job where a bunch of s****y people from out of state treated you poorly, and as a result, you now are convinced that everyone who has managed any degree of success has stolen it from you. Got it.

First, I am truly sorry for what happened to you in that job. That sucks, and it shouldn’t happen.

Having said that, you really didn’t learn much from that experience if you now want to screw over others who had nothing to do with what happened to you then. Furthermore, maybe you think a raise in property tax won’t affect you if you aren’t a property owner in Anchorage. If so, then I strongly recommend you expand your skillset by taking an introductory economics class. If you live in Anchorage, a property tax increase will absolutely affect your bottom line, too. So once again, good job, bro — you’re cutting off your own nose to spite your face.

        • “Good luck explaining to all the masses on the dole that we conservatives believe you have to work towards your happiness(whatever that might be). Taking what I produce in the daily grind of pursuing MY happiness, just to give it to the guy who feels he shouldn’t have to is not only wrong and immoral, it’s straight up stealing.”
I was merely replying with a broad brush … to a broad brush. Then you butted in………….
